What is the best way to convert a PDF back into an InDesign File? I have the PDF that was originally exported from InDesign CS3.
I now have CS6, in fact, I have the Creative Cloud and so can use any Adobe software that might help. What I want to do is get the 181 pages of text in this pdf manual back into InDesign for editing. I tried editing the pdf, and weird unwanted things began to happen, such as the text I changed became both italic and bold, an the buttons to change it in or out of Italic and bold would not work. I tried exporting as.rtf, and had trouble placing the text. Softtech Spirit Crackberry. The first page of text came in, but not did the place command not make pages to accomodate all that text, when I tried to manually place it I kept getting pages with no text on them, but then the red plus button indicating the text was in there somewhere.

I could go on with other things I tried, but this would get too long. Anyone know the best approach for this??? There is no general best approach for this. There may be a good approach for a specific file. So, it depends on the document you have. If it is kind of structured (as opposed to pieces of text splattered around on the pages, you would aim as getting the text out of the PDF as complete as possible. You may have to go as far as trying to export plain text (and then applying styles in InDesign again).
In fact, this may be the preferrable way, as you then can get strict with paragraph and character formats. A possible way to get out information would be opening the document in Illustrator; it may become tedious, but with that you could get as much as possible with graphic elements. It may be tedious if you can only get out single pages.
And finally for raster graphics, you can try to export them to Photoshop. I don't know how much PDF editing capablilities InDesign itself has, but you might have a closer look at this. Hope this can help.
I am trying to take about 1100 1-page indesign files all located in one folder (but each in their own respective subfolders) and batch convert them all to PDF's all in one folder. I would also like to preserve the file name, so the corresponding indesign can be found easily. Basically I am trying to make a PDF library of all the indesign files in this folder. I would like to update it every so often, so I would like it to be as seamless as possible. I tried to do this with this script:, which worked perfectly when I transferred all the files over to CS5, but for some reason, when I batch convert the files to PDF, about 20% of the PDF's made came up as empty files (they looked like they were made correctly, but the size is 0 KB, and they don't open, of course). I even tried doing it in small batches (about 10 files), and I was still getting empty files.
I don't understand why- I can't find anything similar about the files that are coming up empty, and when I open and export them myself, they export just fine. Openstep Installation Instructions there. Computer Programs For Sale. I have also converted while not having the “ignore errors” checked, and no errors come up. I have also tried just putting all the indesign files in one folder, and having Acrobat convert them, but when I do that, acrobat tries, but then says it does not recognize the program that made these files; I don't know why. For reference, I am using indesign CS5 on a PC and Adobe acrobat 9 Pro. I personally do not know how to script, but I use scripts often. If someone knows another script I could use to do the same thing, I would appreciate that. Otherwise, if anyone can tell me if there is a way to troubleshoot this with the Kahrel script, or if there is a totally different way of doing it, I am open to suggestions!
