I have an Alinco EDX-2 connected to an Alinco DX-77. I recently moved my radio around in the shack and it seems to have gone deaf. I tested the coax with an Ohmmeter, and found a short between the center conductor and the shield. I thought it was my extension cable (messed up while moving around) but I tested the cable coming right out of the EDX-2 and it has the short while my extension cable does not (once disconnected from the EDX-2).

My question is, not knowing what is going on inside the EDX-2, should I read a short between the center conductor and the shield of the coax coming out of the cable? Thanks for your input. I'm downloading the service manual.

I'll see if there are some checks I can make, but I'm beginning to think all is okay. Unfortunately, I hooked up an EDX-1 and I'm getting zero power from my DX-77.

I hooked up an SWR/Power meter, and the SWR is good, but the power is zero. I'd say since the EDX-1 meter and the SWR/Power meter agree, my DX-77 is failing. Doom 3 Download Full Version Pc here. I guess you get what you get when you shop on ebay. I've got the DX-77 service manual, so I guess I'll be doing some troubleshooting on it. Once again, thanks for the reply. If I find something out here, I'll post again for posterity.

Well AA4PB's suggested step 1 yields the problem. I was able to hook the DX-77 up to my MFJ-260C dummy load. On 10 meters, it shows about 1/3 Watt power on high power AM setting (manual says 40 Watts) and about 1/6 Watt on low power (manual says 4 Watts).

10 meter FM shows 1/3 Watt on both high and low power (manual says 100 and 10, respectively). On 80 meters AM, it shows about 1/3 Watt power on both high and low (manual says 40 and 4, respectively). I assume (yes, I know what that means) that the final PA transistors are bad. I will look in the service manual and see if someone of my limited competence can troubleshoot them and make a solid determination. Thanks again to both of you for your assistance. I will post another update when I learn something. Regards, Logged Pages: [ 1].
